Africa Writing
Being such a large continent, Africa is full of diversities including the people, culture geography and more. However, all people have one thing in common is the ability to get one of the deathly diseases. These diseases can be caused by something as small as a mosquito bite, or interaction with a friend. There are thousands of deathly diseases, and Africans are suffering by the minute, and could really use our help.
Half of the countries in Africa are in the Saharan desert, however Kenya is not one. It has a variety of landforms such as mountains, wetlands, grasslands, forests, and plateaus. Just like us Americans, Kenyans enjoy watching television and playing sports, they also like dancing, singing, and holidays. Luckily, we live without the fear of Yellow Fever.
The disease Yellow Fever is caused by the Yellow Fever virus. It is transmitted from person to person by mosquitoes. A mosquito bites an infected person, then carries the disease and bites a healthy person who is no longer healthy and contains Yellow Fever. Yellow Fever is a painful and fatal disease. There are two phases. The first phase is about three to six days long and shows symptoms of a high fever, headaches, muscle aches, and nausea. After this happens there is about a twenty-four hour remission. Fifteen percent of patients go through the second phase. This phase consist of internal bleeding from the nose, mouth, eyes, or stomach. There is also a lot of vomiting, and a return of the fever. After ten to fifteen days, the patient dies. You might be wandering what you can do to help. Donating money could help pay for vaccinations, bandages for the internal bleeding, or pain medicines like Advil and Tylenol. You may be thinking that would be a hassle, if so, you can purchase books many middle schools are selling for twenty dollars and all the money is donating to Africa. It may surprise you how big of a difference buying a book can make. Are you going to help? I am, and hope you will too. Just think of all those people in Africa struggling because of these diseases. Not only are diseases a threat but so is the major genocide occurring in Darfur. Learning more about all of this inspired me to do something and I hope it inspires you too, so go make a difference!
